Recent Projects: Strategic Communications Work

 

IOM/Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration Department:

Strategic Communications to the National Program for Disengaged Combatants (April 2018 – March

American Refugee Committee: Highlighting Achievements at the Farjano Resettlement Scheme in Kismayo (December 2018 – January 2019) – M2A

produced a 10-minute video to capture the successes of ARC’s programming.

International Rescue Committee: TV and Radio Civic Education Program (October 2018 – December 2018) 

 M2A produced radio content for audiences in two districts of Mogadishu to improve understanding of issues that could trigger conflict.

AECOM/Transition Initiative for Stabilization Plus (TIS+): Communication Support for National Women’s Basketball Tournament (December 2016) –

M2A led the Somalia Olympic Committee’s multimedia campaign to publicize the first tournament for women in over 25 years via live TV and radio coverage, as well as social media.  The campaign garnered international coverage and reached millions of young people on social media, with#SomaliWomenRising.

Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD): Communication Support for Middle Shabelle State Formation Process (September 2016) – M2A
provided critical outreach services to inform the public about this important process.

UNICEF Somalia: Production of Multimedia Civic Education Content for Girls Education (2013) –
M2A produced dramas, public service announcements, and talk shows to promote the topic. Parents reporting positive attitudinal changes.

Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD): Communication Support for Middle Shabelle State Formation Process (September 2016) – M2A
provided critical outreach services to inform the public about this important process.

USAID/BUILD: Capacity Building for Local CSO Actors (August 2019 – August 2020):

M2A is currently working with USAID’s Bringing Unity, Integrity and Legitimacy to Democracy (BUILD) program to increase knowledge of civil society/constituents in Banadir region on the current debates surrounding the constitution, political activism and engagement, fundamental human rights, social accountability, social inclusion of marginalized and minority groups, democracy, and other related topics.

IOM/DDR: Working with Local Communities Around P/CVE Issues (October 2019 – February 2020): 

 M2A  is working closely with government and non-government actors on this project that seeks to engage Somali artists, poets, musicians, entrepreneurs in Baidoa, Kismayo, and Mogadishu, and families of disengaged fighters and women associated with armed groups.

 The project focuses on a wide range of participants through media and non-media based interactive exchanges, community-based listening events, screening events, workshops led by local artists, and other face-to-face interactions. The P/CVE campaign will utilize. robust storytelling techniques and allow participants to share their perspectives on national unity, social reconciliation, forgiveness, and on the National Program’s handling of disengaged combatants and youth at

IOM/Somalia Stabilization Initiative “Dalbille”: Organize Government-Community week (May – August 2019)

M2A successfully organized a 5-day government outreach week for Southwest State centered in Baidoa but reaching remote SWS communities in Baraawe, Hurdur, Marka, Afgooye, and other territories covered by the expanded network of Radio South West and other communication

systems. As part of the project, M2A designed a communication strategy and plans for activities for a number of SWS ministries with the assistance of the SWS Ministry of Information and Social Outreach (MoISO) and through this Ministry liaising with the Office

of the President (OoP).  Note: M2A organized similar outreach weeks in 2017 in both Southwest State and Jubbaland.



 


IOM/Somalia Stabilization Initiative “Dalbille”: Community Events in Marka (October 2019 – February 2020):

M2A is facilitating community events celebrating and promoting capacity building, skills training, economic development and cultural awareness in Marka, a key city of the Southwest State of Somalia.

IOM/Somalia Stabilization Initiative “Dalbille”: Using Art to Promote Peace and Reconciliation (April 2018 – Jan 2019): M2A

produced an interactive theatre in CeelJaale and Shalanbood villages aimed to promote peaceful dialogue on community issues, the first of its kind in the area. The participatory theatre sought to give communities in the area an opportunity to engage with the questions of peacebuilding, future-shaping, and conflict resolution.  M2A deployed an innovative methodology combining theatre and poetry, which helped create a ‘safe space’ for exploring potentially controversial issues such as tribalism as well as other drivers of conflict.
